چکیده
The recently upgraded barotropic tidal model TiME is employed to study the influence of fundamental processes, chosen resolution, and bathymetric map on achievable accuracy, exemplary for M2 tide. Additionally, newly introduced pole-rotation scheme allows estimate model’s inherent precision (open ocean rms: 0.90 cm) enables studies Arctic domain without numerical deviations originating from pole cap handling. We find that smallest open rms with respect FES14-atlas (3.39 obtained when dissipation carried out similar parts by quadratic bottom friction, wave drag, parametrized eddy-viscosity. This setting proves versatile obtaining high accuracy values a diverse ensemble additional partial tides. Using preferred settings, we show certain minor tides it possible obtain solutions are more accurate than results derived admittance assumptions data-constrained atlases. As linear routinely used de-aliasing satellite gravimetric data, this opens potential improving gravity field products employing TiME.

Inverse Modeling of Ocean Tides
The principal long term goal of this project is to develop a practical, portable, nested, tidal data assimilation scheme which makes use of all available data (e.g., altimetry data, current moorings, coastal radar) to constrain barotropic and baroclinic tides (especially tidal currents) in coastal areas and shallow seas. A second long term goal is to develop more efficient methods for assimilat...
متن کاملPotential and Limitations of Highresolution Satellite Imagery
The issue of commercial highresolution satellite images has found much interest lately within the remote sensing and geoinformation communities. Performance predictions and business expectations have come close to revolutionary changes in the geoinformation industry. Several missions have been planned but only one system made it successfully into orbit. Since the costs of images are high, only ...
متن کاملAccuracy assessment of global barotropic ocean tide models
The accuracy of state-of-the-art global barotropic tide models is assessed using bottom pressure data, coastal tide gauges, satellite altimetry, various geodetic data on Antarctic ice shelves, and independent tracked satellite orbit perturbations. Tide models under review include empirical, purely hydrodynamic (“forward”), and assimilative dynamical, i.e., constrained by observations. Ten domin...
متن کاملNonlinear barotropic tides and bores in estuaries
The propagation of tides from the coastal ocean into shaHow estuarine waters often produces characteristic nonlinearly induced asymmetries of velocity and water level in time series. Until recently (Aubrey and Speer, 1985) a sound physical understanding of related phenomena has been difficult to obtain as flow field daia are rare. Numerical studies usually model a single estuary only; the model...
